Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo, with the islets of Formica and Maraone, constitute the Egadi islands archipelago: their silhouettes provide the backdrop to the coast of Trapani, drawing its boundaries. They are characterised by an incredibly beautiful sea and by sandy and pebble beaches, coves and inlets, rocks, beautiful caves and ravines. The "Egadi islands" Protected Marine Area, established in 1991, is the largest marine reserve in Europe, characterised by an abundant fish fauna, ideal for snorkelling and scuba diving lovers.

Of Hellenistic origin, Scopello owes its name to the imposing stacks (in Greek "scopelos") that rise up from the blue sea. The current village dates back to the XVII century and it is divided into two parts: a "baglio (a typical Sicilian rural building consisting of buildings that open onto a courtyard)", and a small square with a church, a few houses, including a wood-fired oven which produces an excellent pani cunzato (a loaf seasoned, still warm, with oil, oregano, fresh tomatoes, cheese and anchovies) and some shops. It is worth visiting the ancient Tonnara (tuna-fishing factory), one of the most important in Sicily.
The "Trapani and Paceco Salt Marshes" Nature Reserve is located at the gates of Trapani. Here, where time seems to stand still, when the structures for processing the salt were created, the natural landscape merged with the presence of man, in order to give life to a unique and charming environment. At sunset, water within the tanks takes on different shades of colour: from straw yellow to deep red, and then goes dark. Established in 1995, the WWF takes care of its management.
